(ADPnews) - Oct 28, 2010 - Brazilian power utility Companhia Energetica de Minas Gerais (SAO:CMIG4), or Cemig, will acquire 4.9 MW on average between 2011 and 2014 from the Horizonte Asja consortium, which produces energy from biogas originating from waste decomposition.
Horizonte Asja is formed by companies part of Asja.biz, an international renewable energy producer.
According to a news release of Cemig published on Tuesday, the contract signed with Horizonte Asja stipulates the delivery of energy to Cemig's corporate customers, thus increasing the company's product portfolio and offering the market one more option for sustainable energy.
Cemig's commercial director, Bernardo Afonso Salomao de Alvarenga, notes that the energy subject to the accord is clean energy which will have a positive effect on the environment.
The president of Asja Brasil, Enrico Roveda, in turn, notes that Cemig is participating in a pioneer project for Brazil, as it is the first waste energy generation undertaking in southeastern Minas Gerais state, where Cemig operates, and the third in whole Brazil.
