June 18 (Renewables Now) - Danish wind turbine supplier Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) said today it has received a 445-MW firm order for the Rio do Vento project in the Brazilian state Rio Grande do Norte.

The deal was awarded by developer Casa dos Ventos and is the largest one to date in Brazil for the Danish company. It will see Vestas supply, install and commission 106 units of its V150-4.2 MW machines with a high capacity factor and optimised towers. A 20-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement is part of the contract, as well.

Vestas will make the nacelles at its Brazilian factory in Ceara state, while the blades and towers will also be produced locally in line with the requirements of the National Development Bank (BNDES). The wind farm is slated to begin operations in the second half of 2021.

Including the new deal, Vestas’ firm order intake for the V150-4.2 MW in Brazil exceeds 1,500 MW, the manufacturer said. In December 2018, Casa dos Ventos ordered 151 MW of the particular turbines for a project in the state of Bahia.
