June 19 (Renewables Now) - The Ministry of Energy of the Canary Islands said today it intends to make public by July 31 the conditions for its wind and solar energy auction.

The guidelines will be discussed and elaborated during a meeting next week between the island government, the ministry and representatives from the renewable energy sector. After the draft is made, it will be sent to the National Competition Market Commission, the Canary Island Councilor, Pedro Ortega said.

The Canary government also plans to change some rules for the multiregional FEDER funds in order to support the introduction of more renewable resources in the Canaries and also for research and development (R&D) projects related to clean energy generation and storage.

In addition, during today's governmental meeting, Pedro Ortega said that the islands are interested in, among other things, the development of marine energy R&D projects to test new technologies at sea.
