Canadian Solar to supply 96 kW of modules to Gehrlicher Merk in Turkey
Sep 5, 2012 - Solar products maker Canadian Solar Inc (NASDAQ:CSIQ) today said it would deliver the photovoltaic (PV) modules for a 96-kW solar system in Turkey, which Gehrlicher Merk Solar is developing under a government contract.
The project developer is a 50/50 joint venture of German solar technology firm Gehrlicher Solar AG and Turkish firm Merk Solar Enerji. The entity has won the project in a public tender for Gursu municipality in Turkey’s western province of Bursa.
Canadian Solar said that Turkey was seen as one of the important future emerging solar power markets, thanks to its good insolation rates and temperature conditions as well as growing government support. Canadian Solar chairman and chief executive Shawn Qu said he hoped that the company would take part in other Turkish projects with its partners. A total solar power capacity of 600 MW is to be developed in the country by the end of 2013, under government plans.
