Canadian Solar Inc (NASDAQ:CSIQ) plans to start construction on two Australian solar farms totaling 47 MWp in the first quarter of 2017 after being awarded funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).
Both projects are in the state of Queensland and the company is looking to have them up and running in January 2018 or earlier. One of the projects is of 17 MWp, located at Longreach, and the other is of 30 MWp, at Oakey. They will both use Canadian Solar's MaxPower2 CS6U-320 (1500V) polycrystalline modules.
As previously announced, the two projects secured AUD 3.5 million (USD 2.7m/EUR 2.4m) of grant funding as part of ARENA's large-scale solar funding round, whose winners were announced earlier this month. Canadian Solar also has a "20-year government-backed Contract for Difference" for the projects.
