CSI Solar Co Ltd, a majority-owned unit of Canadian Solar Inc (NASDAQ:CSIQ), has received an order from Cape Town-based independent power producer SOLA Group to supply 256 MW of modules to two projects in South Africa.
The agreement is tied to a 126-MWp and a 130-MWp project, the first two largest utility-scale solar power projects in the country which are based on private power purchase agreements (PPAs), the company announced on Monday.
Canadian Solar will deliver 390,073 units of its BiHiKu7 CS7N-MB-AG bifacial modules.
Construction work on the two photovoltaic (PV) plants located in South Africa's North West province began in October 2022, and the start of commercial operation is expected in the first quarter of 2024.
Once up and running, the duo should be capable of producing about 580 GWh of renewable electricity per year, enough to meet the demand of 40,000 households.
