Bulgaria adopts bill to remove building permits for self-use solar

The Bulgarian Parliament today approved on second reading draft legislation that eliminates the need to secure construction permits for rooftop and residential solar installations of up to 20 kW when their output is intended for self-consumption.

Initially, the proposal concerned renewable energy systems for power generation and water heating of up to 10.8 kW but the MPs have eventually given the green light to an increase in the capacity.

Vladislav Panev, the deputy chairperson of parliamentary group Democratic Bulgaria (DB), commented that because of red tape, mainly large investors in Bulgaria were the ones to benefit from cheap solar up until now.
