Brazil's Santa Catarina renewables programme attracts investments of USD 120m

Brazil's Santa Catarina state government said its renewable energy programme attracted investments of BRL 400 million (USD 120.7m/EUR 108.9m) and lead to the generation of 70 MWh of renewable power in its first year.

The sum of the investments is spread out among 22 plants, of which four are operational and 18 are under construction.

Since its launch, the SC+Energia programme, as it is named, also registered more than 70 projects, representing over BRL 12 billion in future investments. This year alone, 16 new hydropower projects should leave the paper, adding 92.38 MWh to the programme's portfolio, the State Secretary of Sustainable Economic Development, Carlos Chiodini, said.

SC+Energia's goal is to foster investments in alternative energy in Santa Catarina, such as small hydropower plants (HPP), wind, solar and biomass.

In one year, the state government licensed an overall capacity of 229 MWh of green projects.
