Brazil's Santa Catarina State Environmental Foundation (Fatma) granted this week five licenses for hydropower plants (HPP) with a combined capacity of 10.99 MW, enough to supply 80,000 homes.
Through the state renewable energy programme SC+Energia, the 1.54-MW small HPP Barra Clara, the 2.4-MW Spessato small HPP, and the 750-kW Erna Heidrich HPP received the Environmental Operating License (LAO), allowing the start of power generation.
The 5.6-MW HPP das Pedras and the 700-kW HPP Pinhal received the Environmental Installation License (LAI), authorising the beginning of construction works.
Launched just over a month ago, SC+Energia allowed Fatma to issue 19 licenses for clean energy projects. The programme is aimed at creating and facilitating measures to encourage investment in alternative, clean and renewable energy such as small and normal HPP, wind, solar and biomass plants.
