Aug 14, 2013 - Brazilian renewable energy developer Renova Energia (SAO:RNEW11) registered 425-MW wind power projects in northeastern Bahia for participation at the government's reserve auction on August 23, 2013, CEO Mathias Becker said yesterday.
These future projects will be located in Bahia's municipality Caetite, where Renova already has some wind power projects. Now, Renova operates the Alto Sertao I wind power complex in Caetite and it is building the Alto Sertao II park. Alto Sertao I was launched in June 2012, but its energy output was not put on sale due to the lack of transmission infrastructure. According to the utility Chesf, which will be responsible for the connection, the construction of the Igapora II electricity substation will be completed in December 2013 or January 2014.
The auction, which is exclusively for wind power projects, foresees 20-year contracts for supply starting as of September 1, 2015. Brazilian energy research company EPE has registered 655 wind energy projects, with a combined capacity of 16,000 MW, for participation in the tender.
