(SeeNews) - Oct 21, 2013 - The president of Brazilian energy research company EPE, Mauricio Tolmasquim, admitted on Friday that the government's next energy auction A-3, scheduled for November 18, will be restricted to wind power plants only.
Apart from the ceiling price of BRL 126 (USD 58/EUR 42) per MWh of electricity, the auction foresees power supply start-up in two and not three years. With this new deadline, only wind power projects will be able to kick off in time.
Tolmasquim underlined that the wind power generators praise the new ceiling price, which is higher than the BRL 117 per MWh offered at the previous government's auction.
Thermal and small-scale hydropower plants will be offered at the A-5 bidding, scheduled for December 13, Tolmasquim added.
Regarding solar power, it is unlikely that any project be ready for auctioning in A-3 or even in A-5, EPE's head commented.
(BRL 1.0 = USD 0.461/EUR 0.337)
