Brazil's energy minister tests positive for COVID-19

March 19 (Renewables Now) - Brazil's president Jair Bolsonaro announced that the country's Mines and Energy Minister, Bento Costa Lima Leite de Albuquerque Junior, has tested positive for the coronavirus COVID-19.

The information was given during a press conference on Wednesday afternoon. Albuquerque is the newest high government official infected, following the announcement of former general and current national security advisor, Augusto Heleno.

Both were part of the group that accompanied President Bolsonaro on a trip to the US. In all, 17 members of the trip have the virus.

According to the ministry, Albuquerque, who is 61 years old, is in an excellent state of health, asymptomatic and will be in isolation in Rio de Janeiro. From there, he will continue to dispatch the issues of the ministry by videoconference.
