Brazil's federally owned utility Chesf announced on Friday it has signed a contract to sell the electricity that will be generated by the 27-MW Park A wind farm, part of the Casa Nova I wind power complex.
The name of the buyer was not disclosed by Chesf.
The utility owned by power distributor Eletrobras SA (BVMF:ELET3) resumed the construction of the 170-MW Casa Nova I wind park in late 2019. The process was previously put on pause for five years because Argentine turbine supplier Industrias Metalurgicas Pescarmona (Impsa) filed for judicial recovery.
Chesf estimates that with the new contract it will generate some BRL 12 million (USD 2.2m/EUR 1.8m) in revenues in a single year, which corresponds to roughly 30% of the investment made after the resumption.
The wind farm consists of 18 turbines with an individual capacity of 1.5 MW. It should be able to meet the demand of 22,000 local homes in Bahia state, the firm stated previously.
According to Chesf's website, the utility is adding 232 MW of wind power in Bahia state with the Casa Nova I, Casa Nova II and Casa Nova III parks. The latter two were inaugurated in 2017 and have a combined capacity of 61.1 MW.
