Brazilian renewables firm Atlantic Energias Renovaveis SA has presented to locals a 255-MW wind project in the state of Piaui, the local government said on Thursday.
The complex will consist of 10 wind farms and 85 wind turbines, spread over 3,494 hectares in the Serra da Manguinha region, in the municipality of Lagoa do Barro do Piaui. The complex will also involve the city of Queimada Nova.
All information about the project was presented at a public hearing chaired by the State Secretary of Environment and Water Resources (Semar), Ziza Carvalho.
More than 600 people attended the hearing, that also addressed the project's Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and the Environmental Impact Report (RIMA).
Semar will monitor and supervise the implementation of the scheme. Ziza Carvalho noted that during there are environmental programmes in place to minimise the project's impact.
