(SeeNews) - Oct 31, 2013 - Brazil's electricity sector watchdog Aneel cleared the test operation of the second turbine, with a capacity of 35 MW, at the Viralcool Castilho biomass thermoelectric power plant (TPP), according to a publication in the State Gazette from yesterday.<br /> The 50-MW sugar cane bagasse-fuelled facility is located in Castilho municipality, southeastern Sao Paulo state. It is owned by local sugar and ethanol producer Viralcool Acucar e Alcool.<br /> This second turbine was originally planned to have a capacity of 16 MW. Following the start-up of this generation unit, Aneel determined other two turbines, with capacity of 0.26 MW each, to operate as backup units.<br /> Aneel will decide whether to authorise the turbine's commercial operation after completion of the test phase.
