Battery manufacturer Grupo Moura has signed an off-take contract with Brazilian wind projects developer Casa dos Ventos to buy electricity generated by the 504-MW Rio do Vento wind complex.
Under the terms of the power purchase agreement (PPA), Casa dos Ventos will supply enough electricity to meet the entire electrical demand of Grupo Moura's operations across the South American country. Supply is set to commence in 2022.

With this PPA, Grupo Moura should be able to offset around 60,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
Located in Rio Grande do Norte state, the wind power complex consists of 120 V150-4.2 MW wind turbines supplied by Danish wind turbine maker Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS). The park is expected to be completed in the second half of 2021. Once it is operational, Grupo Moura can become a partner in the asset.
Casa dos Ventos has recently signed PPAs also with mining multinational Anglo American plc (LON:AAL), Brazilian shoemaker Vulcabras Azaleia (BVMF:VULC3) and local digital solutions company TIVIT.
Casa dos Ventos plans to double Rio dos Ventos' capacity to 1 GW and to add a solar component.
