Nov 14, 2013 - Brazilian northeastern Bahia has wind power generation potential of 195 GW, according to the state's new wind power map, released yesterday by local wind engineering firm Camargo Schubert.
Camargo Schubert has studied Bahia's wind energy potential through 156 mediation towers, scale models and terrain data.
The map considers winds at heights of 80-150 metres, while the previous wind map of the state took into account winds at 50-70 m. Also, the newest version of the map is more thorough and complete and the results are more detailed, the government of Bahia state said. The map's target is to attract new investments in the state's wind power sector.
According to local energy news portal Jornal da Energia, the most promising areas for the development of wind projects in Bahia are Sobradinho; Sento Se; Casa Nova; Regiao das Serras Azul; Acura; Morro do Chapeu; Serra do Estreito mountain municipalities' Buritirama and Barra; Serra do Tombador's Serra de Jacobina; Serra do Espinhaco's Caetite, Guanambi and Pindai; Novo Horizonte; Piata; Ibitiara and Brotas de Macaubas.
