Brazil wind power capacity to reach 7 GW in 2014 - EPE
Aug 23, 2011 - Brazil's wind energy generation capacity is expected to increase to 7 GW in 2014 from the current 1 GW, Mauricio Tolmasquim, president of the government's energy research company EPE, said yesterday.
The executive underlined the importance of investments in wind power plants, especially in Brazil's Northeast, which has great potential for generation.
The economic crisis in Europe has stalled wind power projects there. Thus, as China attracts only companies willing to produce on its local market, foreign companies have focused on Brazil. At present four firms manufacture wind power equipment in Brazil and other four have already announced their plans to start operations in the country, Tolmasquim noted.
