(SeeNews) - Nov 14, 2013 - Brazil has plans to connect to the grid wind power parks with a combined capacity of 4 GW in the first quarter of 2014, the president of local renewable energy producer Renova Energia (SAO:RNEW3), Mathias Becker, said on Tuesday.
However, their launch will depend on the successful partnership between Brazil's National Electricity System Operator (ONS) and local sector players, Becker noted during the National Wind Forum, which is running on November 13 and 14 in the northeastern Bahia state.
The president of Brazil's wind power generation association Abeeolica, Elbia Mello, emphasised that Brazil has now wind power installed capacity of 2.1 GW, hence the launch of the projected 4 GW will require more efforts by ONS. According to Elbia, this capacity will come from projects that are ready or in test phase, but their launch is postponed due to delays in transmission projects.
On the other hand, ONS' head Hermes Chipp, declared that the situation is under control.
