August 31 (Renewables Now) - Brazil's Federal Regional Court of the 2nd Region (TRF-2) announced late night on Thursday it has postponed the A-6 energy auction, previously planned for today, August 31.

The postponement is due to the fact that TRF-2's president, judge Andre Fontes, approved the request from Evolution Power Partners to enter the bidding process with its thermal energy project UTE GPE Bahia I, which previously did not qualify to enter the auction due to divergence with state-owned energy research firm EPE.

With the new addition to the tender, judge Andre Fontes stated that all other competitors are entitled to an additional period to redo calculations, hence the postponement.

The auction will contract power from wind, biomass and hydropower plants (HPPs), as well as thermal power plants that use natural gas and coal. According to power sector regulator Aneel, 59,116 MW of projects have been registered for the auction.
