Brazil postpones 2016's first energy tender to Feb 5

Brazil's Ministry of Mines and Energy announced it has postponed the January 29 energy auction to February 5.

The decision was made public today by a decree in the Official Gazette. The tender will contract power from wind, biomass, hydropower, gas and coal-fired power plants. Electricity supply is scheduled to start on January 1, 2021, with the contracts to be negotiated for amount of energy and availability of energy.

According the ministry's statement, the power purchase agreement (PPA) for each source will have a different term. The longest run will be given to hydropower plants (HPP) with a 30-year contract, biomass and coal projects will follow with 25-year contracts and the remaining sources will get PPA's of 20 years.

This is the second energy auction Brazil has postponed this week. Yesterday, the country rescheduled to December 11 an auction aimed for power from existing plants.
