Brazil energy min clears capacity expansion of Tropical Bioenergia TPP
Jul 26, 2012 - Brazil's ministry of mines and energy has cleared sugar cane bagasse-fired Tropical Bioenergia thermoelectric power plant (TPP) to boost its installed capacity to 50 MW, according to a publication in the country's official gazette from Tuesday.
The capacity will be increased by the installation of an additional 35-MW generation unit to complement the operation of the already existing unit with capacity of 15 MW.
The second unit is scheduled to start commercial operations by September 2013.
The facility's guaranteed power is fixed at 19.7 average megawatts (MWa).
The TPP, located in the Edeia municipality of central Goias state, belongs to local biofuel producer Tropical BioEnergia, a wholly-owned subsidiary of UK power major BP (LON:BP).
