Brazil clears tests of 32 MW at Tropical Bioenergia II plant
Oct 31, 2014 - Brazilian power sector watchdog Aneel allowed local biomass energy producer Tropical Bioenergia to start tests with a 32-MW unit at its Tropical Bioenergia II plant in Goias state as of today.
The company, part of local biofuel operations of UK major BP (LON:BP), will run the plant in Edeia municipality as an independent power producer, using bagasse to generate electricity.
The regulator will decide whether to allow for commercial operation only after the completion of the test phase.
Aneel previously approved the commercial operation of two 40-MW units at the nearby Tropical Bioenergia I biomass plant, as of July 2 and October 1.
Additionally, bioenergy firm ERB Aratinga was authorised to put online 16.8 MW at its Candeias biomass plant in Bahia state as of today.
