Sep 23, 2013 - Brazilian National Social and Economic Development Bank (BNDES) on Friday gave the green light to Acciona Windpower, part of Spanish infrastructure and renewable energy firm Acciona (MCE:ANA), to sell wind turbines in Brazil under the bank's Finame credit line.
According to BNDES, Acciona meets the needed requirements for being part of the programme. These include production of the towers in Brazil, with at least 70% of the steel parts made in the country or with concrete of national origin; manufacturing of the blades in Brazil, in own or third party factory; assembly of the nacelle in a Brazil-based unit owned by the manufacturer itself; and nacelle hub assembly in Brazil, with a locally-produced cast.
In the second half of 2014, Acciona will kick off a 3-MW wind turbine assembly facility with production capacity of 100 units of the AW3000 turbine in northeastern Bahia state. Through this project the company complied with local content rules for the sale of wind turbines that BNDES imposes on wind power developers in order to obtain financing under special conditions.
The other Acciona Windpower's plant in Brazil was launched in March in Simoes Filho, also in the Bahia state.
