Brazil awards 6 GW of hydro concessions in Nov 25 auction

Brazil awarded on Wednesday 6 GW of concessions for operational hydropower plants (HPPs), the power sector regulator Aneel announced.
The auction sold concession contracts with a 30-year term for 29 small and regular size HPPs, separated in six lots, with an average price of BRL 124.88 (USD 33.43/EUR 31.50) per MWh .
For the contracts, the government will receive about BRL 17 billion from the companies that secured the contracts. The amount will be allocated to the National Treasure to, among other things, keep the country attractive for new energy investments.
China Three Gorges Corp (CTG) secured the biggest lot, of BRL 13.8 billion. The other winning companies are Enel Green Power SpA (BIT: EGPW) and locals power utility Copel (BVMF: CPLE6), power distributor Celesc Distribuicao and electric utilities Cemig (BVMF: CMIG4) and Celg Geracao e Transmissao SAO.
