The Brazilian Ministry of Mines and Energy authorised on Friday four wind projects with a combined capacity of 99.9 MW to become part of the national Incentive Regime for Infrastructure Development (REIDI).
The EOL Santa Veridiana and EOL Santo Amaro do Piaui projects are located in the city of Caldeirao Grande do Piaui, Piaui state. Each of the two 29.7-MW plants will use 11 turbines. They will require investments of BRL 117.9 million (USD 37.5m/EUR 33.6m) and BRL 127.9 million, respectively. Construction of the farms has already begun and will be completed by December 30, 2015.
EOL Umbezeira and EOL Juazeiro are located in the city of Igapora, Bahia state. With 21.6 MW coming from eight turbines, the total cost of EOL Umbezeira is estimated at BRL BRL 89.3 million. EOL Juazeiro, in turn, has seven turbines totalling 18.9 MW and is seen to take up about BRL 79.2 million in investments. Both plants are scheduled to go online after September 1, 2015.
REIDI, launched in 2007, grants tax incentives to companies investing in infrastructure projects within the transport, energy, sanitation and irrigation sectors.
