(SeeNews) - Oct 23, 2013 - Brazil will produce 168 million litres (36.9m gallons) of second generation ethanol by 2015, outstripping the European production, the CEO of Brazilian ethanol producer GranBio, Bernardo Gradin, projected.<br /> According to Gradin, Brazil's leadership will be result of the combination of first-generation and cellulostic ethanol production.<br /> The main obstacles of the Brazilian industry at present are the lack of regulatory framework for the biotechnology and skilled workers, and the scare incentives for research and development (R&D).<br /> Granbio already has a 2G ethanol plant under development in the northern Alagoas state, which will require BRL 560 million (USD 257.8m/EUR 187.2m) investments.<br /> (BRL 1.0 = USD 0.460/EUR 0.334)
