June 29 (Renewables Now) - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), part of the US Department of the Interior, this week announced the approval of a 80-MW solar project in Wyoming.

The Sweetwater Solar Energy Facility is proposed by Sweetwater Solar LLC and will be built in Sweetwater County, near the city of Green River. This is the first solar project on BLM-managed public lands in Wyoming.

According to the agency's website, the developer is set to start construction on July 1, 2018 and complete the facility in February 2019. Up to 300 jobs are expected to be created during the six-month construction period. Once completed, the solar park should generate enough electricity to power 17,000 homes.

The BLM released the environmental assessment for the project for a 15-day public comment period in April.
