Biomass projects of 198 MW win contracts in Brazil's latest auction

Brazil awarded on Friday around 198 MW of biomass power supply contracts in the A-5 energy auction held on April 29, the Power Trading Chamber (CCEE) announced.

A total of seven biomass plants got contracts, of which four will use sugarcane bagasse as a fuel, two will burn wood chips and one will run on biogas.

Aside from biomass, the auction negotiated one 5.54-MW natural gas scheme, one hydropower plant (HPP) of 62 MW and 20 small HPPs projects with about 262.94 MW of combined capacity.

The contracted projects, totaling some 528.9 MW, are scheduled to start electricity supply on January 1, 2021.

According CCEE, the auction had 29 winners. The tender secured contracts for 49,206,048 MWh at a total price of BRL 9.77 billion (USD 2.8bn/EUR 2.4bn), or an average of BRL 198.59 per MWh.
