Dec 6, 2013 - Biogas and solar project developers can compete for USD 30 million (EUR 22m) in incentives under the NY-Sun Competitive Photovoltaic (PV) scheme, New York Governor Andrew M Cuomo said on Thursday.
Proposals for projects of more than 200 kW will be accepted by December 30, 2013. The winners need to have completed installation, grid connection and commissioning by April 30, 2015. To be eligible, projects have to be located at businesses, factories, municipal buildings and other larger commercial and industrial sites in the Hudson Valley and in the five boroughs of New York City.
Under the programme all projects need to secure co-funding as the NY-Sun funding cannot cover more than 50% of the total costs for the installations. The available financial support per project has been limited to USD 3 million, while one applicant can apply for no more than USD 6 million. There is an exception for projects in areas dubbed as a “Strategic Location” by local utilities.
So far, the NY-Sun Competitive PV scheme has backed 92 MW of solar power projects the output of which can cover the demand of 16,000 households per year.
The NY-Sun initiative, run by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), also has the Solar PV Incentive programme for projects of below 200 kW.
