Chile’s 2021 technology neutral power auction attracted bids reaching as low as USD 13.32 (EUR 11.26) per MWh, while a number of offers ranged between USD 21 and USD 28 per MWh, Chilean energy commission CNE said on Monday. The tender process lured 29 domestic and international power players, all vying to secure a chunk of 2,310 GWh per year for 15 years. The bidders placed offers against ceiling prices of USD 37.0/MWh set for the supply block 1-A, running from 2300 and 0800 local time, and block 1-B, from 0800 to 1800. The price for the supply block 1-C, from 1800 to 2300, was capped at USD 41.0/MWh, CNE revealed last week. The presented offers suggest this tender process will be remarkable, and enable average award prices to go below those achieved in the 2017 round, CNE executive secretary Jose Venegas commented. Winning bidders will supply the electricity to qualified distribution companies serving residential and SME customers. The contracted supply is to run from January 1, 2026 through December 2040.
