WeDoSolar GmbH, a Berlin-based startup co-founded by Ukrainian-born serial entrepreneur Karolina Attspodina, has introduced a vertical solar power generating solution that can be mounted to balcony fences by non-tech-savvy users.
Attspodina launched the business alongside hardware engineer and fellow entrepreneur Qian Qin in February 2022 and in just one month WeDoSolar secured more than 1,500 orders. The co-founders say their business is backed by angel funds and is open to future investment.
WeDoSolar’s solution comes in the form of a lightweight eight-panel set that is easily mountable with weatherproof straps to the balcony fence and is hooked into a standard power socket, with electricity generation beginning immediately. The system is being offered to EU markets and, according to the co-founders, can help homeowners cut their electricity bills by up to 25% per year.

The set, designed by German engineers and fully insured, is available for direct purchase at a price of EUR 1,299 (USD 1,316) or as a free rental model for electric vehicle (EV) owners in exchange for carbon dioxide (CO2) certificates. It is supported by a smart app that tracks both power production and carbon reduction and presents the data in a user-friendly way, WeDoSolar says.
"Existing solar panel solutions are either intended for industrial use or are too heavy to install without the assistance of a qualified technical team. You also have to wait for the monthly bill to determine the effect. We provide a tool that every person, both owner and tenant, could use at home on a daily basis, to power home appliances," commented Attspodina, CEO of WeDoSolar.
