Belgian solar park to power local production site of Ineos Inovyn

Ineos Inovyn, a unit of UK-based chemicals group Ineos, has made an unspecified investment in a Belgian solar park project that will be supplying electricity to one of its facilities in Namur province.

The Helios photovoltaic (PV) farm will be installed in proximity to Ineos Inovyn’s site in the municipality of Jemeppe-sur-Sambre. Тhe chlorovinyls producer said on Friday it will buy the plant’s output under an exclusive power purchase agreement (PPA). The name of the photovoltaic (PV) project developer was not specified.

Once commissioned in 2024, the 90,000-panel farm’s generation will cover 10% of the Jemeppe-sur-Sambre facility’s electricity demand. The annual output of 57,000 MWh will be enough to supply around 16,000 Belgian homes annually.

The investment will help Ineos Inovyn save around 14,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually. It is also aligned with the company’s plans to reduce its carbon footprint across all of its operations by over 30% by 2030 and become net zero by 2050.
