Belgian green energy investments peak in 2012 - report

Dec 7, 2012 - Green energy investments are gaining momentum in Belgium this year, with the exception of investments in solar panel, local daily De Standaard reported today.

Applications for 34 biogas installations, four biomass plants, 20 windmills, one hydroelectric plant and 149 heat and power stations were filed with local regulator Vreg in the first 10 months of 2012.

The decline in the solar-cell segment, in particular, is a result of increased competition and reduced subsidies. A total of 245,628 kW of additional solar capacity was approved in Flanders in the first 10 months of the year, or just one-third of the capacity in full-2011. The number of solar systems approved through October was 36,594, considerably less than in 2011 but more than in 2010.
