November 4 (Renewables Now) - Swiss renewable power producer and energy trader Axpo Holding AG has agreed to provide a subsidiary of SNCF with balancing services for 60 MW of solar and wind power until the end of 2023 as the French state-owned national railways group is seeking to raise the share of green electricity.

As part of the deal, Axpo will balance unplanned fluctuations in electricity production for the French company.

The deal will enhance Axpo's position in the French market of power purchase agreements (PPAs) and strengthen its relationship with a major player in the market, the Swiss firm said on Tuesday.

The energy trader is active in France through its subsidiaries Volkswind and Urbasolar, which develop wind and solar projects in the country.

The agreement with Axpo is part of SNCF Energie's strategy to raise the share of green electricity to up to 20% of the electricity consumption for passenger-train traction by 2025 through PPAs.
