Austrian energy company Energie Steiermark will deploy a 1-MW electrolyser of German green hydrogen technology specialist H-Tec Systems GmbH to produce green hydrogen for mobility and industrial use in the state of Styria.
The PEM Electrolyser ME450/1400 will be installed in Gabersdorf, southern Styria, and is set to go on stream as early as the middle of this year, producing up to 450 kg of green hydrogen per day, H-Tec Systems said on Thursday.
The system will run on solar power and will be connected to an existing biogas plant.
The green hydrogen will be used either as a fuel in the mobility sector and in the regional industry or it will be fed into the grid. Up to 70 tonnes of the output of the plant will be supplied to a mining company in the state while another part of the green fuel will be mixed with raw biogas and then fed into the natural gas grid, providing green natural gas for 60 single-family houses annually.
The announcement comes only a month after the Augsburg-based company unveiled that two of its electrolysis systems of 1 MW each will be supplied to electricity and gas distribution network operator Westnetz in the German town of Haren for a research and development project.
