Auctions for 950 MW of PV capacity launched in India

January 8 (Renewables Now) - Two tenders for a total of 950 MW of photovoltaic (PV) capacity were launched in India on Friday, the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) said.

The two auctions are for solar projects in the states of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

SECI has launched a Request for Selection (RfS) seeking developers for 200 MW of grid-connected solar parks that will be built within the Pavagada solar complex in Karnataka. Each bidder will be able to take part with projects of at least 50 MW and up to 200 MW. The deadline for submitting proposals in February 20.

Additionally, SECI has put up for auction 750 MW of grid-connected capacity at the Kadapa solar park in Andhra Pradesh. Bidders in this tender can bid for projects of between 250 MW and 750 MW. Bids are due by February 23.

Limited liability partnerships (LLPs) will not be allowed to take part in the two auctions, in which projects will be developed on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis. Selected candidates will be awarded 25-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) with SECI. The cap for both tenders is INR 2.93 (USD 0.046/EUR 0.038) per kWh. SECI will sell the output of the PV parks to local power distribution companies (discoms) in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

Including these two tenders, SECI has auctioned 1,225 MW of grid-connected solar projects since the start of 2018. Last week, it announced a 175-MW solar tender in Uttar Pradesh.
