Atlas Renewable acquires 378-MW wind project in Brazil - report
Latin America-focused Atlas Renewable Energy has acquired a 378-MW wind project in Brazil’s Minas Gerais state, the company's general manager Luis Pita told Reuters on Monday.
The project, the first of its kind for the firm in Brazil, was developed by French renewable power plants operator Voltalia SA (EPA:VLTSA). The value of the deal was not disclosed.
Named Juramento, the wind asset’s output has yet to be sold. Atlas' strategy is to pursue long-term agreements with the likes of mining giant Anglo American Plc and chemical companies Dow Inc and Unipar Carbocloro SA. According to what Pita told Reuters, the firm expects to close an energy sales contract soon.
At present, Atlas has more than 3 GW of solar capacity, operational or under construction, in Chile, Uruguay, Mexico and Brazil.
