Atlantic Wind & Solar Inc (OTCMKTS:AWSL) is eying half a gigawatt of solar and wind projects in Thailand and India, as part of a long-contemplated expansion into South Asia.
The Canadian firm said it has been observing the region for several years and has now taken steps to “solidify relationships” in the most interesting markets there.
More specifically, Atlantic Wind and Solar is structuring agreements for 230 MW of solar projects in Thailand and 210 MW in India. It is also assessing 90 MW of Thai wind opportunities.
The company now has renewable energy plans with a combined capacity of over 1 GW. It noted that there is no assurance in its ability to convert this pipeline into commercial operation.
In May, Atlantic Wind & Solar announced a yieldco, Power 1 Inc, to buy and hold projects developed by it. At the time, the firm said it has 650 MW of projects at different stages of development in Canada, South America, South Asia and the Caribbean.
