Ascent Solar expands in Japan

(SeeNews) - Dec 13, 2013 - US thin-film solar module developer Ascent Solar Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:ASTI) said yesterday it had struck two partnership agreements with Japanese firm Kyodo International Corp and Nara Co to distribute its EnerPlex solar-integrated chargers in Japan.

Osaka-based Kyodo International helps introduce consumer electronic products to the Japanese market, while Nara Co brings both large electronics and consumer electronic products to the market.

The EnerPlex products are suitable for portable electronic devices. In the product line there are solar-powered charging cases with battery storage and solar-powered charging cases for Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone and Samsung Electronics’s (KRX:005935) Galaxy smartphone.

Last month, Ascent Solar expanded its US distribution network by adding three more kiosk locations in Southern California. It aims to expand its direct retail chain offering the EnerPlex products in the US to 10 outlets by end-2013.
