Arizona Public Service to set up 18 MW solar plant
(ADPnews) - Sep 30, 2010 - US local utility Arizona Public Service Co (APS), a unit of Pinnacle West Capital Corp (NYSE:PNW), said on Wednesday it would install an 18 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in Gila Bend, southern Arizona.
The price of the project was not disclosed.
The plant will comprise 75,000 solar panels on single-axis trackers, spreading on 145 acres (58.7 ha) of land used for agriculture in Gila Bend's Solar Overlay Zone. According to APS estimates, the plant's energy output on sunny days will be enough to power 4,500 households.
The utility expects to get permission for the project in less than three months and start construction works in the beginning of 2011 with completion slated for November 2011.
The plant will be developed by Solon Corp, a unit of German solar modules maker Solon SE (ETR:SOO1).
APS has other projects under development, including a 15 MW solar PV plant, a 99 MW wind farm, and 280 MW solar thermal plant, it said.
