Argentine Rio Grande Energia launches USD 2m ethanol plant

(ADPnews) - Oct 1, 2010 - Argentine firm Rio Grande Energia launched a USD 2 million (EUR 1.5m) ethanol plant in the northwestern Jujuy province yesterday, the first ethanol plant in that province.
The company, a subsidiary of local sugar refiner Rio Grande, has agreed to supply 8.2 million litres (2.2 million gallons) of ethanol from that plant to the domestic market in 2010. The ethanol will be blended with petrol (gasoline).
Rio Grande Energia considers to increase the supplies for the mandatory biofuel blend to 12 million litres a year.
Currently, Argentine sugar producer Ledesma (BUE:LEDE) prepares to launch another ethanol plant in Jujuy next month which will produce 100 million litres a year.
