Argentine La Rioja province to upgrade wind farm by 50 MW
Oct 28, 2014 - Argentina's La Rioja province is ready to double the capacity of its 50.4-MW Arauco wind farm thanks to a new power purchase agreement (PPA) it has signed with national wholesale power market administrator Cammesa, governor Beder Herrera said last week.
The wind farm, owned by the province and state-owned energy company Enarsa, currently sells its output under a 15-year PPA with Cammesa. The new contract, worth nearly USD 328 million (EUR 257.5m), will also be valid for 15 years.
The local government plans to expand the wind farm to 100 MW by October 2015. Additionally, the government is working on two wind projects of 300 MW each, in the areas of Arauco and Punta de los Llanos, that could transform the province into a leading clean energy producer with a total 700 MW, Herrera said.
