Argentina wants to install 15-MW biomass plant in Villa Guillermina - report

Nov 5, 2014 - Municipal authorities in Argentina's Santa Fe province propose a biomass power plant of 15 MW in the Villa Guillermina area, renewable energy expert Rene Galiano told news site Energia Estrategica in an interview on Tuesday.

The plant will use forest biomass, such as eucalyptus, to supply the national power system.

The project was first presented to the provincial government in 2012 and could be developed for 2016. The initially studied capacity of 25 MW was reduced to comply technically with the local grid.

The authorities in Villa Guillermina have received offers from land owners interested to develop plantations for the project, while the province has carried out a study on the forest resources in the district. The province will also collaborate for grid studies and will help identify a basin for the plantations, while the national authorities have been looking for investors in Argentina and China.
