Argentina expects start of USD 2bn renewable energy projects by end-2010
(ADPnews) - Oct 6, 2010 - Some 30 renewable energy projects, worth USD 2 billion (EUR 1.443bn), are expected to be launched in Argentina by the end of 2010, the chairman of the Argentine renewable energy chamber CADER, Carlos St. James, said on Monday.
The projects will add nearly 1,000 MW to the country's power generation capacity as of 2013, he said.
Although the renewable energy sector accounts for less than 1% of Argentina's energy mix now, the sector is about to experience a boom stimulated by the local potential for such projects, especially for wind farms, and by the official policy, James forecast.
The government targets renewable energy to account for 8% of the energy mix in 2016.
