Akuo Energy advances 50-MWp solar project in Indonesia

Akuo Energy announced this week it has entered into a letter of intent (LoI) for the finalisation of a power purchase agreement (PPA) tied to the 50-MWp Melaya solar project in Indonesia.

French renewable power producer Akuo Energy and government-owned electricity producer and distributor Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) signed the pact on Tuesday in the presence of the Indonesian minister of energy and mineral resources Ignasius Jonan.

“The major deal signed today with PLN paves the way for the development of utility-scale solar PV energy in Bali, and already makes Melaya the largest-ever solar project developed on the island,” said Eric Scotto, chairman of Akuo Energy.

The French company will build the ground-mounted plant on the island of Bali. It will cover 55 hectares of uncultivated farmland secured from the local government, and will incorporate Akuo Energy’s Agrinergie component via the setting up of photovoltaic (PV) greenhouses and permanent organic crop cultures. General Electric (GE) is the project’s preferred supplier.

Construction is expected to start in the second half of 2018 and completion is scheduled for 2019.
