August 2 (Renewables Now) - AES Indiana, a unit of The AES Corporation (NYSE:AES), intends to acquire the Petersburg solar project in Pike County, which includes 250 MW of solar power generating capacity and 180 MWh of energy storage.

The retail electric service provider will buy the project from a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources LLC for an undisclosed sum. The latter will develop and construct the plant in question.

The project needs to secure clearance from the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC). Subject to this happening, the facility will go live no later than May 1, 2024, generating enough power each year to supply the equivalent of 45,000 homes during peak hours.

In June, AES Indiana got the regulator’s approval to acquire the 195-MW Hardy Hills solar project in Clinton County.
