AES Corp (NYSE:AES) has formed a 10-year strategic alliance with search engine major Google LLC to use its cloud technology and work together to enable a broader adoption of renewables through newly developed solutions.
The US electricity producer said it will use Google Cloud technology to help establish the grid of the future and improve the experience for corporate energy customers. The innovation partner of AES, namely Uplight, will also make use of the technology to bolster its end-to-end energy action system, the announcement says.
AES pointed out that it will work with Google Cloud on energy management and seek opportunities to sponsor clean energy projects in select markets in the US and Latin America that could help Google achieve its clean energy goals.
A bit over a month ago, Google signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with AES Gener Chile SA to procure electricity for the expanded section of its data centre in Quilicura, a suburb of the Chilean capital Santiago. According to reports by Chilean media outlets, the power producer and distributor is to deliver an annual electricity supply of 440 GWh from renewables for 14 years.
