Aug 10, 2022 16:14 CESTApril 22 (Renewables Now) - Shopping mall owner and operator Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (AMS:URW) has signed a contract with Acciona Energia (BME:ANE) entrusting it with the integral management of the energy services of seven Spanish shopping centres and securing 100% renewable electricity supply.
The agreement has an initial term of 15 years and can be extended every five years.
The Spanish power producer said on Thursday it plans to install more than 40,000 sq m (430,556 sq ft) of photovoltaic (PV) panels in order to make URW's malls energy self-sufficient. The deal also includes an integrated system of sensors and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to manage all of the shopping centres’ energy services.
With this contract, Unibail-Rodamco will be able to reduce the annual electricity consumption of the seven malls by over 14%, Acciona noted.
