January 9 (Renewables Now) - Spain's Acciona SA (BME:ANA) has joined the New Energy Opportunities (NEO) Network of Schneider Electric SE (EPA:SU) and expects this to allow it to fast-track projects.

Acciona Energy is now part of the worldwide community of over 150 companies committed to buying and developing renewable energy and clean technologies.

This partnership with Schneider comes at a time when corporate procurement of renewable energy is breaking year-over-year records, Acciona pointed out. More than 8.7 GW of large-scale offsite renewable power purchase agreements (PPAs) have been struck in 2018 alone in 28 countries. To date, Schneider Electric Energy & Sustainability Services has advised clients on over 4.5 GW of large-scale PPAs.

"The Network’s centralized range of services and extensive market reach will help us accelerate our renewable energy offerings for corporations. [..] A development that might have previously taken three years to engineer, finance and build now has the potential to be online in a year," said Acciona Energy head Santiago Gómez Ramos.

Currently, the Spanish firm has more than 9 GW of renewables in its global portfolio and an additional 1 GW of wind and solar under construction.
